Artist Statement

I have been doing some form of creative work since a teenager when I designed and built my first house, an 8'x12' A-frame.  Born in Portland, Maine, I've lived in the southern part of the State most of my life.  Well before I started traveling, my interests in all things artistic was nurtured by two creative parents.  My mother, a painter and gardener, and my father, a home designer and builder, instilled in me a curiosity about nature and a love of art, in all its forms. Traveling has only intensified that interest.

My love of nature continuously rises to the surface of all my work, whether I'm painting, drawing or printmaking.  My most recent paintings grew out of a series of abstract drawings of fabricated organic objects; both my paintings and drawings reflect the transformation of plants, trees and/or other vegetation into shapes and patterns which speak to my particular definition of an artificial landscape.  I'm inspired  by organic elements and attempt to recreate them to evoke a sense of mystery and excitement.
